News from the Honey Bears and Bumble Bees

February 2009

~ ~ ~  REMINDER ~ ~ ~

Our next Honey Bear and Bumble Bee meeting will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009.Please note that THE MEETING WILL BEGIN AT 11:00 AM followed by lunch at noon to accommodate Sister Rebecca’s busy schedule.  The meeting will be held at Lents Masonic Temple on SE 92nd and Foster in Portland.  Our host Chapter will be Mt. Scott Chapter.

FROM THE QUEEN BEE

Hello Honey Bears and Bumble Bees, Our time is getting short and I am starting to get a few bees buzzing in my stomach when I think about June and Grand Chapter.  I am busy calling people to be Grand Committee Members, sending out dress forms and badge orders, getting Grand Officer outfits ordered, etc.  I hope you are thinking about your year in the East and all the fun it will entail, probably some work too.

I am to pick up our delegate bags in April in Boise; the Session Pins are here along with the Traveling Pin you so graciously purchased from our coffers.  The Proficiency Pin is in the works as we speak.

Remember, at Grand Chapter this year we are in charge of the All Membership Banquet, we will need help setting up and having our group Host or Hostess at a table.  The 50 Year Members will be honored at this banquet; we may have more people in attendance for this reason.  We tried to lower the cost of the meal by not going with Prime Rib and did save some money. We are also in charge of the Jewelry Booth, if you have any New To You Jewelry bring it to Grand Chapter.  Ask your Chapter Members if they have costume jewelry or Eastern Star jewelry they would like to donate.

Before Grand Chapter we have the Strawberry Booth at Sumpter to work, May 22, 23, 24, & 25.  If you are interested in working let me know so we can schedule you in and not have everyone there on the same day.

Before that we have a Reception for Brother Joe and me.  April 18, 2009, the meal will be at 6 PM at Boulevard Grange Hall between Ontario and Nyssa, and then we will go to Nyssa to the High School Auditorium for a 7:30 PM Reception and “The Announcement” of our Appointed Grand Officers.  Sunday morning April 19th, I hope that the Honey Bears and Bumble Bees will stick around for a FREE Breakfast Buffett at the Sizzler Restaurant and meet the newest Honey Bears and Bumble Bees, OUR GRAND OFFICERS.  We will eat at 9 AM.

BUT before that we will have a meeting on April 18th at noon at Golden Rule Chapter in Nyssa.  We will have more information in our next newsletter.

I would like to thank the Honey Bears and Bumble Bees for the cute Bee Wind Chime I received at our Christmas Party.  What a great time was had by all who attended.  A few first timers were present to make the evening even better.

FROM THE KING BEAR

On February 2nd, Phil the groundhog saw his shadow in Pennsylvania and the Oregon Zoo hedgehog saw his in Portland, each indicating that there will be six more weeks of winter.  This morning (February 9th) I woke up to fresh snow on the ground.  The good thing is that it will only last for a couple of months now.

Valentine’s Day is upon us and that means that the year of the Oregon Gems is fast coming to a close and the Honey Bears and Bumbles year is about to start.

ARE YOU READY?  Have you completed your calendar for the year?  Now it the time to schedule those special dates and have them ready for the new directory.

APRIL 18th!!!!!  That is the day everyone wants to plan on being in (far) Eastern Oregon.

The announcement of the Grand Officers for the 2009-2010 year will be made at the reception that evening.  I am sure that there will be some surprises but it will be an outstanding corps of officers.  MW Brother Robert Richmond has moved the Eastern Oregon BLT to Baker City and the dinner before the reception has been moved to 6 PM.

This has been done to try to accommodate those brothers who are involved in the BLT but need to be in Nyssa for the reception.  Thank you, Grand Master, for helping us out.

Listen.  Can you hear that loud rumbling noise?  It is the locomotive that is pulling the Honey Bear and Bumble train and it is headed for station.  JUNE 24th.  There is only a stop or two left before it reaches its destination.   After April 18th it will be high balling the rest of the way.  I hope that everyone is on board and ready for a wild ride.

Honey Bear Love,
Papa Bear Joe

Remember to call V.P. Helen Bible at

503-848-3619

To make reservations for meeting lunches.

Reservations are important so that

the Chapter preparing the meal prepares for

enough people or doesn’t prepare too much food as well.

If you would rather email your reservation please email it to our President, Tom Kissinger at tjkiss@msn.com

FROM THE BEE HIVE

As I sit here contemplating what I want to say I think that OMG!  Rebecca and Joe will be installed in 135 days.  What a journey these two have taken upon them selves – all we can do is wish them God speed and good luck as they prepare for that date.

The single most important date to put on our calendar is, April 18 in Ontario where the new grand officers will be introduced to the world!  We want to see all of you there as a sign of support.

Good luck to all as we the workers in the Hive get ready for our year in the East,  our hope is that you have good luck in appointing officers to fill the ranks in our subordinate chapters and that we all will have a good and prosperous year.

It is never to late or early to be considering who will lead this special group of Bears and Bees the next year, if you hare interested make it known to any of the current officers.

Hope to see you at Mt Scott on February 28 at 11 AM for the meeting.  We will eat at noon .

Tom “the Prez” Kissinger

Don’t forget the Strawberry Booth in Sumpter Oregon over Memorial Day weekend, May 22, 23, 24 and 25. Workers are greatly needed and appreciated.  Please let Rebecca know if you are able to help work and when you are available.

RESERVATIONS FOR LUNCH ON FEBRUARY 28 MUST BE TO HELEN BIBLE OR TOM KISSINGER BY THE WEDNESDAY PRIOR TO THE MEETING, PLEASE REMEMBER TO MAKE THEM IN A TIMELY MANNER.

 NEW TO YOU JEWELRY BOOTH
We are in need of GOOD USED jewelry for our NEW TO YOU Jewelry Booth at Grand Chapter.

It has been recommended that we display any Rainbow Girls jewelry that we can as they meet immediately following our Grand Chapter.

Please bring items to our meetings or to Grand Chapter in June. Please be sure jewelry is in good repair.

JUST A REQUEST FROM THE “PREZ”

If you know of anyone in the Pendleton area who has land that I would be available to leave my pickup truck and trailer on from Memorial Day weekend to Grand Chapter if you would ask them to contact me, or if you would send me their contact information I would greatly appreciate it.  Judie and I are driving to Florida for our grandson’s graduation and we would like to be able to take our trailer up to Pendleton for Grand Chapter, however we are not returning to Portland after our Florida trip but will go directly to Pendleton.  My phone number is 503-665-2185 or you can email me at tjkiss@msn.com         Thanks, Tom
