November 2007
Rebecca’s Buzz
Dear Honey Bears & Bumble Bees,
You’re the Greatest!! What a reception, good food, good friends and so much fun. Thank You for the bee’s nest cookie jar, a very unique gift. The addenda’s for Joe and I were great, maybe next year we will have more voices for the choir.
I was asked why I had picked Honey Bears and Bumble Bees to be our name and here is what I said at my first reception when we were announced:
I know some of you are thinking oh boy, bears again, but there is some significance to these emblems, every bear is a honey bear, they all like honey, like Eastern Star we are all sweet, some just growl louder then others. The bumble bee is the important emblem in this scheme he is the one who produces the honey. Without the bee there is no honey. Without the Masons no Eastern Star, the bees represent our Masonic Heritage, they are one of the most important parts of our Order. So you see I have at least thought up a good reason to use bears again.
I hope to see part of you at our Christmas Party this next weekend. Thanks to Carolyn and Ted Beecher for inviting us to their home for this fun time together.
Sister Carolyn Beecher has just submitted her letter of intent to run for Associate Grand Conductress and we wish her well.
I have had a wonderful time doing schools, meeting sisters and brothers who I have not known before and greeting old friends, I wish I could do schools all year long, the break is bad because I forget some of the things I am suppose to instruct.
What a wonderful time of year, I helped Sister Carolyn Patrick at Thanksgiving put up her Christmas lights, then my grandson asked where mine were, so up they went, now I am at Hap and Patti Baldwin’s and who knows what we might do. Enjoy this holiday season, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Honey Bear Love,
Rebecca-the Queen Bee
Joe’s Jive
Hello, HB & BB’s.
WOW! What a fantastic party we had on the 17th of November. For those who could not attend you really missed a good time. With about 160 friends and guests present we turned an “old rodeo” hall into a very nice dining and chapter room.
We were privileged to have present Phil Green, WGP and Dennis Okicich, Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of Washington. Also attending from the Grand Chapter of Idaho was Marvin Gerking, PGP, and his wife Dianne.
I want to thank the HB & BB for Welcome sign with the boots on it. It will soon be at my front door to welcome everyone. I also want to thank you for the gift card. It will be used for a special purchase.
REMEMBER, our next party will be the Christmas party on December 9th. It will be at Carolyn Beecher’s home in Oregon City.
I want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
Joe
PS: Remember, always party with friends. It is a lot more fun.
The Prezz Buzz
Dear Honeybears:
What a wonderful party we had in Elgin for our Queen Bee Grand Conductress and our Cowboy Grand Sentinel. It was a wonderful day in Eastern Oregon.
I would like to take a few minutes of your time and encourage each of you to take special care to support our Grand leaders in the coming years. Our group is small and we will have many events coming up that will take each and every one of us to complete. Rebecca, Joe and “Grand Slave” Carolyn are some of the hardest working people that are around, so I encourage each of you to get onboard and work right beside them in the coming years. We will have the “New To You” booth at Grand Chapter so this is your opportunity to sort through your closets and relieve them of their fullness. Please bring nice used clothing (men’s too) to Grand Chapter and be prepared to work in the booth as well. This will be our money maker this year and we should do well with it.
I want to wish each of you the happiest of Holidays this year.
Your President,
Patti
November Minutes
The November meeting of the Honey Bears and Bumble Bees was held following a great luncheon at Hope Chapter #13 in La Grande on Nov. 17, 2007.
Patti Nielsen, President, called the meeting to order, noting that formal introductions of our Grand Conductress, Sister Rebecca Price and Grand Sentinel, Brother Joe Jarvis, had been made at the luncheon with members of the Story Tellers. Grand Committee members and Grand Representatives were also recognized at that time.
A motion was made that the minutes of the meeting of September 29 be accepted as printed in the newsletter and on the website. Motion seconded and passed.
Treasurer Sister Mary Maxwell reported a beginning balance of $4,476.46 with deposits during the period for dues, badges, ways and means, and disbursements for luncheons at Trinity and Hope Chapters, to Pat Marcum for the beaded bees, and for postage and the rack to use for the New to You clothing at Grand Chapter per the financial statement. The balance today is $5,127.26.
Under visiting and cheer, it was reported that Brother Arnie Buchan has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and is being treated at Salem Hospital. Sister Kathy McClain has an apparently nonmalignant tumor on a knee and is receiving care. Brother Michael Thompson was trying to change a light bulb at his lodge in Newberg and fell, suffering a compound fracture of one leg. He is home from the hospital but is currently not climbing stairs. Debbie Armstrong is having problems with vertigo.
Under Unfinished Business, Sister Patti reported that Sister Carolyn Beecher (and Brother Ted) have invited us all to come to their wonderful country ranch south of Oregon City for our Holiday Party on December 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their home is at 12876 S. Spangler Road, south of Oregon City and west off Highway 213. Be sure to bring something to share to eat!
A long discussion was held about whether or not to continue the Ways and Means Table and what to include if it is continued. Sister Rebecca has developed a tentative budget, projecting the amount of funds we would need for Grand Chapter during our session, and her figures indicate that if we can be as successful as the Oregon Gems were last year with the New to You clothing resale, we would be able to raise sufficient funds without a Ways and Means table.
Brother Tom moved that we liquidate the Ways and Means table and focus on the New to You booth. Motion seconded and passed.
We are reminded that our next meeting is February 6, 2008 at Naomi Chapter in Dallas and that we will be working to decorate the 250 Christmas Stockings that will be presented to all of the residents of Jennings McCall I and II during our year. The basic stockings are felt and we can bring decorations to sew, glue, or otherwise affix to these items. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. in Dallas.
The option of purchasing new costume jewelry to supplement the consigned fraternal jewelry for our booth at Grand Chapter was discussed with several scenarios presented including “new to you” costume jewelry. After a lengthy discussion, Brother Tom moved that we not buy additional jewelry to sell at Grand Chapter. Motion seconded and passed.
Sister Rebecca brought two examples of items that could serve as mementoes for our Honey Bears and Bumble Bees. Sister Rebecca projects that we would need approximately 120 items. Sister Debbie moved that we select the bouncing bees. Motion seconded and passed.
Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
Lyn Horine Burgess
